My passion for mechanical items and the inspiration behind Origin Manufacturing traces back to 13-year-old me tinkering with a paintball gun to improve its performance and reliability. It took just two years to build a reputation as the best airsmith in the local area.
By 18, the largest manufacturer in the industry offered me a position as their Chief Technician and Director of Warranty & Repairs. At 20, I was head of the R & D Group. While K2 Sports eventually bought us out, the acquisition led me to a consulting role and the launch of my own retail paintball store.
The economic collapse shuttered our doors in 2008. Yet, we never retired the small laser engraving machine we used to “zap” custom logos and art onto customers’ gear. We began offering laser cutting and engraving services with an engineering touch. Later, we added a CNC mill, four lasers, and three CNC machines.
In fewer than four years, we produced over two million individual parts for a single customer. Our CNC expertise later spiraled into new customers and industries, acting as a “contract or fulfillment manufacturer.” We expanded our services to include film camera mounts and accessories, aerospace, automotive, and so on.
The company now known as “Infaspace” was still on an upward swing. However, by the end of 2014, growth stalled, and I craved a change in pace outside of the hustle and bustle of LA. That once-six-employee team became just me in Ventura, California.
I officially planted Origin Manufacturing’s roots in November 2017 after moving to Oxnard, then a partnership between myself and a longtime friend — Justin. We hoped to specialize in unique and innovative firearms components serving the competitive shooting market and the military and law enforcement communities.
That didn’t go quite as planned.
We reversed course and set our sights on contract manufacturing. In early 2019, we became a Xometry Manufacturing Partner and earned their prestigious Excellence in Manufacturing Award, a prize only nine others claimed.The company now known as “Infaspace” was still on an upward swing. However, by the end of 2014, growth stalled, and I craved a change in pace outside of the hustle and bustle of LA. That once-six-employee team became just me in Ventura, California.
